    Description

Syntac is the classic bonding agent for a sound chemical bond between composite material and tooth structure.

    Advantages

    • Clinically proven for more than 20 years
    • Reduction of postoperative sensitivities
    • High bond strength to tooth structure and excellent marginal quality
    • Universal indications – for direct and indirect restorations

    Indications

    • Direct composite and compomer restorations in anterior and posterior teeth
    • Adhesive luting of indirect composite and ceramic restorations

    How Syntac works

    Working step

    Purpose of working step

    Syntac Components

    Conditioning dentin

Modify smear layer and expose collagen and tubules / Infiltration, hydrophilic wetting

    Syntac Primer

    Priming/Wetting

Infiltrate exposed collagen with resins hydrophilic enough to wet dentin, e.g. PEGDMA plus maleic acid, glutaraldehyde and water: Create transition between hydrophilic substrate and planned restoration via tag formation

    Syntac Adhesive

    Bonding

Coat the primed dentin and the etched enamel with a hydrophobic bonding agent to provide a bond to the composite/restoration. Cross linkage via copolymerisation with restorative material

    Heliobond

    Key Specifications

    Composition

    • Syntac Primer contains triethylene glycol dimethacrylate, polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate, maleic acid and acetone in an aqueous solution.
    • Syntac Adhesive contains polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate and glutaraldehyde in an aqueous solution.
    • Heliobond contains Bis-GMA, triethylene glycol dimethacrylate, stabilizers and catalysts.

    PRECAUTIONS:

    • Syntac Primer is an irritant and highly flammable.
    • Heliobond is an irritant.
    • Avoid contact of Syntac Primer, Syntac Adhesive or Heliobond with skin, mucous membrane and eyes. If the product comes in contact with the skin, rinse with soap and water.
    • If Syntac comes in contact with the eyes, immediately rinse with copious amounts of water for at least 15 minutes and consult a physician/ophthalmologist.
    • Syntac Adhesive contains glutaraldehyde and is detrimental to health if inhaled or swallowed.
    • In rare cases, contact with skin may lead to a sensitization to methacrylates and glutaraldehyde.
    • Commercial medical gloves do not provide protection against the sensitizing effect of methacrylates.

    Direction to Use

Step 1: A dry operating field must be ensured. Ideally, a rubber dam or the user-friendly OptraDam Plus should be used.

Step 2: In very deep cavities, areas close to the pulp should be selectively coated with a calcium hydroxide liner (e.g. ApexCal) and subsequently covered with pressure-resistant cement (glass ionomer cement, e.g. Vivaglass Liner).

Step 3: Apply phosphoric acid gel (e.g. Total Etch) first to the prepared enamel and then to the dentin surfaces. The etchant should be left to react on the enamel for 15 to 30 seconds, and on the dentin for 10 to 15 seconds. Dentin etching is an optional working step and is not required for Syntac. Following this, remove all etchant gel with a vigorous water spray for at least 5 seconds. Excess moisture should be removed leaving the dentin surface with a slightly glossy wet appearance (wet bonding). Excess moisture should be removed with either air syringe, a dry brush, a foam pellet or other lint-free absorbents. Do not overdry the dentin!

Step 4: Apply Syntac Primer with the brush on the cavity and gently rub in. Syntac Primer requires a contact time of at least 15 seconds on the dentin.

Step 5: Disperse excess Syntac Primer and dry thoroughly. Do not rinse.

Step 6: Apply Syntac Adhesive, leave it for 10 seconds and thoroughly dry the cavity with an air syringe. Do not rinse.

Step 7: Apply Heliobond and blow to a thin layer. Note: At this point, Heliobond must be light-cured for direct restorations. For the placement of indirect restorations, Heliobond is polymerized together with the cementation material.

Step 8: Light-cure Heliobond for at least 10 seconds with a polymerization light using a light intensity of at least 500 mW/cm2 (e.g. bluephase in the LOP mode).

Step 9: Apply the restorative (e.g. Tetric EvoCeram) or cementation material (e.g. Variolink II) according to the instructions of the manufacturer.

Note: Do not mix Syntac Primer and Syntac Adhesive. Apply the products sequentially
